Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a networking technology that allows LAN-enabled devices, such as Axis IP cameras, to be powered over a network infrastructure using a standard Ethernet cable. Axis provides a variety of PoE solutions including PoE midspans, PoE switches, and High Power PoE products. PoE midspans, also called PoE injectors are used for existing networks that need to power PoE cameras. PoE switches provide power and handle data transmissions from a single point over a single Ethernet cable.
High power PoE midspans and switches deliver more than double the power of normal PoE midspans and switches. High power is most often needed for cameras that require more power such as PTZ cameras, PTZ speed dome cameras, and cameras with heaters and blowers.
